How this feedback was gathered
How was this feedback collected?
This feedback was collected anonymously from 66 AP students at a California high school by their teacher. Students were asked what they liked about Magna and rated it across different factors on a 5-point scale from Strongly Disagree (1) to Strongly Agree (5). The survey captured authentic student perspectives on using the platform for AP exam preparation.
How were the quotes on this page selected?
The quotes above are a selection of the most substantive responses from the survey, shown with each student's own star rating, so the selection leans toward the highest-rated answers. Across all 66 students and all six dimensions, ratings ranged from 2 to 5 and averaged 3.97 out of 5. Duplicate entries were removed and minor spelling was cleaned up; the wording is otherwise exactly as students wrote it.
What were students asked to evaluate?
Students rated Magna on six dimensions: how easy the platform is to navigate, how effective the FRQ writing interface is, how likely they would be to recommend it to classmates, how relevant the content is to their course, how helpful the AI feedback is, and how much the platform built their confidence in FRQ writing. Students also compared Magna to AP Classroom and shared the features they found most helpful.
What does the overall picture show?
In the survey, students rated Magna 3.97 out of 5 on average across the six dimensions. Relevant Content scored highest at 4.4 out of 5, with the FRQ writing interface at 4.1 and Helpful Feedback at 4.0. 75.8% of the surveyed students said they prefer Magna over AP Classroom for FRQ practice, and 74% would recommend it to classmates. AP Classroom provides official course resources and practice; Magna complements it with immediate, point-by-point feedback on written responses.
What did students find most valuable?
Three things came up again and again: immediate feedback instead of waiting days for grading, detailed explanations that show why points were earned or lost against rubrics aligned with official AP scoring criteria, and unlimited practice without adding to their teacher's workload. Many students said Magna helped them find weak areas, build confidence, and feel prepared for the actual AP exam.
How did Magna impact student performance?
In a year-over-year AP Government study at the same school with the same teacher, students using Magna had stronger outcomes after accounting for Unit 1 baseline performance: 3.25x higher odds of scoring a 5 and 2.25x higher odds of scoring a 4 or higher. The share of students scoring a 5 nearly tripled, from 12% to 35%. Quasi-experimental study, not a randomized trial: AP US Government at a single high school, 2024 cohort (no Magna) vs. 2025 cohort (with Magna), same teacher, logistic regression controlling for Unit 1 baseline, p<0.05.
