FAQ

About Magna

What the platform is, how grading works, and what the results show.

What is Magna Education?

Magna Education is an AI assessment platform for standardized test preparation, available today for Advanced Placement (AP) and TSIA with SAT coming soon. Students practice multiple choice and free response questions, get instant, standards-aligned feedback and grading, then practice exactly what's missing. In a year-over-year AP US Government study at the same school with the same teacher, students using Magna had 3.25x higher odds of scoring a 5 on the AP exam.

How does Magna grade AP FRQs?

Magna grades each FRQ against the AP rubric and returns feedback in seconds, showing students which rubric points they earned and what was missing. Teachers keep the final word. Grading that same FRQ by hand takes a teacher 2 to 4 minutes, so Magna gives back 4 or more hours on a typical assignment.

Does Magna improve AP scores?

In a year-over-year AP US Government study at a single high school (same teacher, 2024 vs. 2025 cohorts, controlling for Unit 1 baseline, p<0.05), students using Magna had 3.25x higher odds of scoring a 5 and 2.25x higher odds of scoring a 4 or higher. In the same study, the share of students scoring a 5 rose from 12% to 35% year over year. Separately, in one teacher's AP Biology classes of 80+ students, the AP pass rate rose from 78% to 88% in 2026. Results vary by school.

Magna covers AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Psychology, AP Environmental Science, AP United States History, AP World History, AP US Government and Politics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science Principles, AP English Language & Composition, and AP English Literature & Composition, plus TSIA practice for Texas students. SAT practice is coming soon.

Does Magna integrate with our LMS?

How do schools get started with Magna?

Students can sign up and start practicing free. Schools and districts can book a 30-minute demo to see Magna on their own courses and data.

FAQ

For Students

Getting started, practicing on your own, and how Magna compares to AP Classroom.

How do I get started?

Create an account, pick your AP course, and start practicing. The free plan includes MCQ practice from the full question bank; paid plans add free response grading and feedback. Plan details are on the Magna pricing page.

How accurate is the AI grading?

Magna scores FRQs against rubrics aligned with official AP scoring criteria, and the feedback system is built with review by subject matter experts and AP teachers. In a year-over-year study, student performance on Magna closely tracked their actual AP scores.

Which AP courses does Magna cover?

13 courses across science, English, history, social studies, math, and computer science, including AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Psychology, AP English Language, AP English Literature, AP U.S. History, AP World History, and AP U.S. Government and Politics.

How is this different from AP Classroom?

AP Classroom provides official course resources and practice. Magna complements it with immediate, point-by-point feedback on written responses. In a survey of students who used both, 75.8% preferred Magna over AP Classroom for FRQ practice.

Does Magna work for self-study?

Yes. Magna is built to work with or without a teacher. You get the same practice questions, instant point-by-point feedback, and skill tracking whether your school uses Magna or you sign up on your own.

When should I start practicing?

The earlier the better, but Magna is built for wherever you are: steady practice through the year, or focused review in the weeks before the May exams.

FAQ

For Educators

Grading accuracy, time savings, LMS integrations, and student data protection.

How accurate is AI grading for AP FRQs?

Magna's feedback is built on rubric-aligned scoring reviewed by AP teachers and subject matter experts. Every rubric goes through human review to confirm the AI's scoring matches what an experienced reader would award. In a survey of students who used both, 75.8% preferred Magna over AP Classroom for FRQ practice. Want to check for yourself? During the demo you can try out a response to an FRQ and see the feedback firsthand.

Does Magna support TSIA?

Yes. Magna supports TSIA preparation alongside its AP courses, with instant feedback on written responses, MCQ practice mapped to TSIA standards, and class-level reporting that shows which students are on track.

Does Magna work with my LMS?

Yes. Magna supports sign-in through your LMS SSO, so students and teachers use their existing school credentials. For LMS platforms like Canvas, Magna opens in a frame right inside the Canvas tab, so students work without leaving their course page. No rostering overhaul or IT project required.

How is student data protected?

We follow FERPA requirements: student work and records are never sold or used to train third-party models, and access is limited to the student's school. Contact hello@magnaeducation.ai for our full data practices documentation.

How much time does Magna save teachers?

Teachers typically spend 2 to 4 minutes grading each student's FRQ. For a single FRQ assignment across a full class, that adds up to 4+ hours that Magna gives back, and assessments themselves are created in seconds.

Which AP courses does Magna cover?

Magna covers 13 AP courses: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Psychology, US History, World History, US Government and Politics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Statistics, Computer Science Principles, English Language, and English Literature. TSIA preparation is also available.

FAQ

For Schools & Districts

Rollout, coverage, CCMR goals, outcomes research, and what happens in a demo.

How much setup does this require from my teachers?

Very little. Teachers assign from a bank of thousands of questions per AP course, or build their own assessments in seconds. Magna does not replace your curriculum. It is the practice and feedback layer on top of the courses you already teach.

How accurate is the AI feedback?

Feedback is rubric-aligned and built on reviews by subject matter experts and AP teachers to ensure accuracy and quality. Teachers always keep the final word: they can review, adjust, and override any score.

Which exams and subjects are covered?

13 AP subjects across Science, Social Science, Math, English, and Computer Science, plus the TSIA. Both free response and multiple choice practice, with instant feedback on every attempt.

How does Magna support our CCMR goals?

Magna's TSIA practice identifies students near the TSI benchmark early and targets the skills holding them under it, and AP scores of 3+ count toward CCMR accountability indicators.

How do you protect student data?

Student identifiers are stripped before any content is processed by AI models, all data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is role-based. Student data is never sold and never used for advertising.

Is the outcomes research real, and can I read it?

Yes. The headline numbers come from a quasi-experimental study in AP US Government: same school, same teacher, same curriculum, two consecutive cohorts, with logistic regression controlling for baseline achievement (p<0.05). We will walk you through the full methodology in your demo, or email us for the study.

What happens in a demo?

Thirty minutes with your team. We use the AP subjects and TSIA sections your campuses actually teach, and show you the student, class, and campus reports your leadership team would see. No commitment, and no setup on your end.
